About Us
Yarmouth Farmers’ Food Basket is made up of a group of Farmers located in Yarmouth’s Tri-County area, providing fresh, sustainably grown vegetables and fruits, at a fair price, for Both You and Us.
Based on the Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) model, people purchase seasonal shares in the farms’ harvest, and in return, receive weekly food baskets full of fresh produce throughout the season.
The weekly vegetable harvest is shared between all members, with variety and quantity varying with the time of the year.
Our CSA is dedicated to bringing people and food together in a local partnership. If you love fresh, sustainably grown vegetables; and being a part of a group of friendly, foodie folks then you are in the right place.
Is the Yarmouth Farmers’ Food Basket CSA is good fit for you?
The Yarmouth Farmers’ Food Basket CSA is a good fit for you if you:
· enjoy or want to try new foods and new recipes and like many kinds of vegetables
· love cooking and have the time to prepare several meals each week from scratch
Shopping at the local farmers market is best choice if you:
· are a family of selective or less-than-adventurous eaters or aren’t vegetable lovers
· lead a life that’s just too busy to frequently cook from scratch or take on new commitments
How does membership in Yarmouth Farmers’ Food Basket CSA work?
When you become a member of our CSA, here is what you can expect:
· You will receive a Full Share or Half Share of sustainably grown vegetables each week for our 26 week season.
· You will learn how to prepare, preserve and enjoy local, seasonal food.
· You will sign our application form to pay an early seasonal fee that is equal to one month’s payment (applied to your November’s food basket) that is non-refundable.
· You will choose a preferred site for vegetable distribution. Once you have submitted your application we will let you know of the nearest site and for pick-up.
Quality Control and Member Feedback
Our goal at the Yarmouth Farmers’ Food Basket is to provide the highest quality, sustainably grown ingredients for you to feed your family.
We work diligently to ensure that our gardens and farms are safe places to work and that our planting, harvesting and processing standards meet Canadian Inspection Food Agency (CIFA) regulations.
We believe in continuous training and our farmers and gardeners participate in many on farm and in classroom training sessions with the Department of Agriculture and others to keep up to date with sustainable growing practices and to learn from each other!
We are conscious of how our shrinking local food supply is affecting our daily lives and look always to you, our members, for feedback on how we can make the experience of being a part of our CSA a positive one! We always look forward to hearing back from you on what we are doing well and where we can improve!
